Chapter Two: The Editorial Gauntlet
Hello again, lovely readers! 📖
Remember last month when I was all starry-eyed about editorial notes? Well, I've now been through what I'm calling "The Great Character Assassination of Draft Two." Turns out my protagonist wasn't just saying "feel sad" too much – she was also fond of "bitter disappointment," "crushing despair," and my personal favorite: "sadness so sad it was the saddest."
I'm a professional writer, I swear.
Publishing Updates
Big news! We have a cover designer! I can't share the final version yet (publishing timelines are basically witchcraft), but I CAN tell you it involves: - Floating memory fragments that look like butterflies - A color palette that my designer calls "nostalgic twilight" - Typography that made me gasp out loud in a coffee shop
Publication date is now officially set for April 15th. Mark your calendars, set your alarms, tattoo it on your forehead – whatever works!
Writing Life Reality Check
This month's honesty corner: I spent three days agonizing over a single paragraph transition. THREE DAYS. It was 42 words. That's 14 words per day, which is approximately the output of a very motivated snail.
But! I also wrote my favorite chapter yet – a flashback scene where the protagonist's grandmother teaches her the family's secret. It involves baking bread, buried photographs, and a revelation that made my beta readers yell at me. Success!
Community Love
Speaking of beta readers, can we talk about how amazing you all are?
Last month I asked what you were reading, and my inbox EXPLODED. Special shoutout to Marcus who recommended "The Shadow of the Wind" – I'm now completely obsessed and may need to move to Barcelona immediately.
Keep the recommendations coming! I've started a spreadsheet because I'm nothing if not extremely Type A about my hobbies.
What's Next
The next few weeks are all about: - Final line edits (pray for my sanity) - Author photo shoot (pray for my face) - Writing marketing copy (pray for my soul)
I'm also outlining book two because apparently I'm a masochist who enjoys having multiple stress sources at once!
Mini Writing Workshop
Since many of you mentioned you're also writers, here's this month's tip: When you're stuck on a scene, try writing it from a different character's perspective. Even if you don't use it, you'll discover things about your story you didn't know were there.
This trick saved Chapter 18, which was basically a snoozefest until I realized the cat had been watching the whole confrontation and judging everyone involved.
Stay curious, keep reading, and don't forget to pre-order (just kidding, you can't yet, but I'm practicing my shameless self-promotion).

P.S. – Fitzgerald the writing cat has started his own Instagram: @fitzgeraldwrites. He's already more popular than me. I'm not bitter. Much.
